Spring is here and you know what that means… The 2014 Padres season is upon us!!!!

The High Dive is your spot to kick back with a craft beer and some tasty food to watch every friars game this season.

Fat Tuesday with Abita Brewing

In order to celebrate  Mardi Gras, the High Dive is hosting a Fat Tuesday event with Louisiana’s own Abita Brewing Company! We will have some tasty Abita brews, a Fat Tuesday inspired food special, Abita giveaways/glassware, and plenty of Mardi Gras fun – High Dive style!

Abita Beer List:

Purple Haze – Lager brewed with real raspberries added after filtration. It is brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops. The berries add a fruity aroma, tartly sweet taste and a subtle purple color and haze…you may see fruit pulp in the beer. (4.2% ABV)

Restoration Pale Ale – Brewed with pale, caramel and carapils malts. It is liberally hopped and dry hopped with Cascade hops. This golden ale has a rich body, mild bitterness, and a snappy citrus hop flavor and aroma. With your help Restoration raised over $550,000 for hurricane relief. (5.2% ABV)

Turbodog – Dark brown ale brewed with pale, caramel, and chocolate malts and Willamette hops. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate, toffee-like flavor. Turbodog began as a specialty ale, but has gained a huge, loyal following and has become one of our flagship brews. (5.6% ABV)

Abita S.O.S. (Save Our Shore) — A charitable pilsner is a message in a bottle…a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita donates 75¢ to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive the disastrous gulf oil spill. This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with pilsner and wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma. (7% ABV)

Fat Tuesday Food Special:

Deep fried Catfish served with hush puppies, a smoked sausage jambalaya, and a jalapeño-cheddar biscuit ($11.50).

Happy Holidays High Diver’s! This month at The High Dive we are celebrating by keeping a holiday beer on all month long. We will be featuring various jolly holiday related beers all December.

The first beer we tapped to kick off the most wonderful time of the year was The Bruery’s ‘6 Geese A Laying’. This dark and toasty ale is the 6th beer in The Bruery’s line of Christmas beers and a perfect way to start the festivities. On December 6th we will be hosting our monthly Flowing Friday with Anchor Brewing and will be putting on Anchor’s Christmas Ale. Anchor has been brewing this beer since 1975 and every year the recipe changes a little. This tasty beer has become a holiday tradition at The High Dive and every year we put it on tap to bring out that Holiday cheer.

Join us Thursday, December 19th for our pint night where we will be featuring Delirium Noel. This festive beer is a Belgian Strong Dark ale and very, very tasty. Not only can you get a glass of this on the 19th, but you will get to take home a Delirium noel glass that has little pink elephants in Santa hats… what’s more Christmassy than that?! Finally, on December 24th (Christmas eve) we will be putting a keg of Port Brewing Santa’s Little Helper Stout 2012 on. This is a special beer because we have been aging it at The High Dive since last year! So stop on by The High Dive this holiday season and enjoy a festive beer and maybe a few others like my favorite – 51/50 IPA from Iron Fire Brewing. Happy Holiday’s to all our High Dive friends and stop on by this season for a little Holiday Cheer.

Chicks for Beer 12/17

This month Chicks For Beer will be featuring one of San Diego’s up and coming breweries – Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment. Acoustic Ales brew out of the historic Mission Brewery Plaza located near the San Diego airport. Acoustic is one of my favorite up and coming breweries in San Diego and I am very excited to have them hosting this months Chicks For Beer. The beers we will be featuring this month are:

  1. Run For The Hills IIPA 8% abv
  2. The Groupie Unfiltered Strong Belgian Blonde 8% abv
  3. Passion Pils Session Pilsner Dry Hopped with passion fruit 3.5% abv
  4. Unplugged Oatmeal Stout brewed with Belgian milk, chocolate and molasses 9.5% abv
  5. Willow Wolves IPA brewed with Nelson and Simcoe hops

Ballast Point Spirits Earn “California Distillery of the Year”

The New York International Spirits Competition (NYISC) named Ballast Point Spirits “California Distillery of the Year” last week, in addition to winning four medals for their quality spirits.

Ballast Point’s Old Grove Gin and Devil’s Share Moonshine each earned silver medals, while Three Sheets White Rum and Devil’s Share Bourbon each took home a bronze. Earning four medals across four different spirits categories helped garner the “California Distillery of the Year” distinction for Ballast Point.

Yuseff Cherney, Ballast Point’s COO & Head Brewer/Head Distiller, stated “It’s always humbling to win individual awards for each of our spirits, but winning this distinction for the distillery as a whole speaks to the quality we strive to create across the board.” “Following the tradition of our award-winning beers with recognition for our new spirits business is inspiring,” continued Cherney, “especially when we are up against some of the best distilleries in the world.”

According to Adam Levy, founder of the NYISC, “We are excited to award Ballast Point ‘California Distillery of the Year.’” “The craft market continues to grow and mature and Ballast Point is a perfect example of a craft distillery that distills what the trade buyers and consumers will buy.”

High Dive Movember

Movember - High Dive

Movember is upon us! Did you know that 1 in 6 men are affected by prostate cancer?!? This is a scary fact just like the 1 in 8 figures for breast cancer. Unfortunately because men usually develop this later in life, it isn’t as well known – it is important to get checked early and be informed!!! We are raising money this month to help fund programs for more awareness and early detection.

Join the High Dive Movember Team!!! You can use this link to help educate and join/donate to the High Dive Movember squad.

We are holding an Instagram stache contest that will run all month long, and the winner will receive a killer gift basket with some awesome goodies. Post your Movember mustache photos tagged with @highdivesd & #movember to enter for the prize.
Donations: make a donation to support those affected by prostate cancer! Make a 100% charitable donation of your choice, round up your check, or put a stache up on our front window to show support and promote awareness.
Lastly we are holding our FIRST co-ed beer/spirit & food pairing with Ballast Point on Tuesday, November 26th. This is going to be a rockin event with Ballast brews as well as some of the spirits including the Devil’s Share line. No-Shave November is under way. In addition to raising awareness for cancer research and having an excuse to rock an awesome beard, you’re also helping the environment by participating. Here’s how:

1. You’re saving 300 gallons of water.
The average shave uses between three to 10 gallons of water, so by going shave-free, you’re saving anywhere from 90 to 300 gallons of water in one month.

2. You’re cutting back on razor waste.
Recycling of disposable razors can be difficult due to the process of separating the blades from the plastic and the potential health and safety concerns involved. Therefore, the recycling options are limited. If you’re a disposable razor user, by participating in No-Shave November, you’re helping to lower the amount of razor waste in landfills.

3. You’re saving electricity.
Even if you use a lower-waste electric razor, you’re still using electricity. Also, while electric razors last longer, the energy used in the design, manufacture and disposal of them adds to your carbon footprint. Shaving doesn’t always have to mean waste. When December rolls around, consider using a completely recyclable straight razor.
